Maximise Your Blog: The Post-Publication Checklist

Maximise Your Blog: The Post-Publication Checklist
Posted on Nov 7th 2013

Nothing beats hitting ‘publish’ on a new blog post, but even when the new content is finished and up on your site, there’s work to be done to maximise its reach.

This simple post-publication action plan will help you get more out of each blog you publish.

Promote on Social Media

Of course you already know you should be promoting your blog posts on social media, but reconsider the way you’re doing this. Simply posting the link along with the title of the post is the quickest route, but also the least engaging.

Each social media platform allows you to optimise your messages to widen your reach and drive traffic to your website. Take time to think about the length of your message, the use of questions to spark interest, eye-catching images, hash-tags and any other tricks available to promote engagement.

Moderate the Comments Section

When you’ve published a piece of new content to your blog, you need to keep a close eye on the comments section to monitor your audience’s response. If someone asks a question or posts a comment that invites further discussion, take time to think of a meaningful reply. And don’t forget to delete comments from spammers or ‘bots’ as soon as possible so the discussion remains on topic.

Maximise Reach

Just because you have created great content for your blog, doesn’t necessary mean your audience will find it. Consider how you can get your blog seen by as many of your potential guests as possible, perhaps by posting your work to a curation site or investing in targeted ads to drive relevant traffic.

Encourage Dialogue on Social Media

If your guests are sharing your blog content on social media, there’s a good chance they’re talking about it too. Keep your eyes peeled for interesting comments and questions about your piece, and be ready to join in the conversation where appropriate. By encouraging these meaningful interactions, you can strengthen your blog readership, increase your social media followers and drive bookings.

In the highly competitive online world, simply publishing great content on a regular basis isn’t enough to generate the results you hope for with your blog. By following these steps each time you publish a new piece of content, you can ensure it gets seen by as many relevant people as possible.
