SEO for your website: A few tips

Posted on Jun 10th 2010

When creating a website it is important to ensure the content included within it is effectively optimised. What this entails is an effective Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategy.

An effective strategy would see your website rank highly in major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing! If you have applied an effective SEO to your resort’s website, search engines will love it and will potentially rank you higher than a competitor without an optimised website.

The Power of Content

The key to an effective SEO strategy is content, and lots of it! When writing your content it needs to be well written, concise, informative, relevant and ensure that it is both dense in quality and quantity.

One of the essential things to remember is that you need to ensure you regularly update and add to your content. This will increase its relevance in the search engine results. A great way to do this is by writing weekly updates, blogs or news posts, this way at least once a week you are adding something new for the search engines to feed off.

The eTourism blog is a great example of a blog that is maintained and updated regularly. There are also some helpful articles on whether starting a blog is right for your hotel.

Quality

The quality of your content is another essential element to an effective SEO strategy. What your information provides is ultimately the determining factor the search engines uses to establish your hotel’s website ranking in search results.

Keyword-density

The subject matter of your content is another important point to remember. You need to incorporate keyword-density for your content to rate highly in search engine results.

Keyword-density is the selection of keywords that are constantly used throughout your content. These words should be relevant to your hotel, or at least be industry specific.

The density of your content should be between 4-5%. What this means is that for a web page which contains approximately 100 words, 4 or 5 of these words should be your chosen keywords.

Applying an effective SEO strategy to your website will increase your ranking in prominent search engines, and subsequently boost the online traffic your website receives.

SEO is as simple as writing good content for your website and finding new ways to update it regularly. So if your website is not yet effectively optimised you better get to it and increase those ranking!
