A Better Website - 4 Quick Checks
Friday 12th October 2007
So you read every week about some new way to improve website conversions. But how often do you have the time to do these things that often can take hours per day? Most of our clients are independent resort operators who we know don’t have that kind of time to constantly manage their online presence, but read on for some tips you will have the time to do, and will greatly improve the your website conversions.
Optimizing your copy for better search ranking, monitoring review from every review website and building large networks from which to sell your rooms… “Wow”, you say. “That sounds like an excellent idea, I’ve got to find the time to do that’. And there’s the problem. You don’t have the time.
Here’s what you do have the time to do:
1. Read through your website. Does it accurately portray what your resort offers? Remember that people mostly skim through content, and mainly concentrate on headlines, and content at the top. So when you read your own copy, skim through it. Make sure that your headlines say something meaningful, and that the first two sentence basically explain what the rest of the page is about. If you think it can be done better and need some help, give our support line a call on 1300 551 448, we’ll give you some advise.
2. Check your pictures. Are they large enough? Detailed enough? Do they show people what they really want to see? People will use a site like Wotif to find a list of resorts they’re interested in (so check your copy on that too!), but then they will look for your official site to check out your rooms. Make sure they can see them by having a great photo gallery – visitors should be able to click on the pictures and see larger versions. Do you have accurate descriptions of what room they’re actually looking at – these are the clinchers.
3. Check your rates, and compare them to Wotif. Because while they’re on your site checking out your resort, people will compare your rates. So if you’ve got a lasts minute deal on Wotif, match it on your own website. You’ll save because you won’t have to pay Wotif their higher commission rate.
4. Get people to return, with rewards and emails. People love being rewarded for basically doing nothing. Send emails to all your past guests (it’s really easy to do in ELRes Administrator) telling them about discounts just for them, or a special event that’s coming up. It will keep your resort in their mind and when friends ask them where to stay, they’ll easily remember your resort.
You could do all these easy checks in about an hour or so. Find any problems? Give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to help. Remember to call 1300 551 448 during office hours (Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.00pm) or email support@etourism.com.au anytime you like.
